Local Governing Bodies

Local Governing Bodies

Our Local Governing Bodies strategically support and challenge schools to achieve excellence for our pupils, and they are strategically supported by the Trust to fulfil their role.

Governing bodies' responsibilities fall on three main pillars

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding senior leaders to account for the performance of pupils and staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Our governing bodies are governed by their Terms of Reference and by the Trust Scheme of Delegation, which set out the authority delegated to governors in making strategic decisions in diverse areas of school life.

Governors receive dedicated and specialist support from our Chief Operating Officer and Governance Manager and the bespoke LiHT Governance Hub.  We also subscribe to the NGA learning links training portal. By giving governors this close support, we allow them to focus on supporting and challenging the schools to achieve the best outcomes for pupils while looking after their well-being.

Our governors are also given the opportunity to network with colleagues from other governing bodies from across the Trust at our annual Governance Day and AGM meeting.
